OUR SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY AT KISHIGO

OUR SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY AT KISHIGO

BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Kishigo has always prided itself on its innovation and forward-thinking designs. And in thinking about the future, we also need to think about our impact on the planet.

Kishigo has started its sustainability journey focusing on the elimination and reduction of paper and plastics, as well as increasing the usage of recycled materials. All of these efforts will push us toward our end goal of reducing our carbon footprint.

We’re dedicated to making the world a safer place—one tag at a time. One bag at a time. One vest at a time.

RECYCLED SHIPPING BAGS

As a first step toward our goal, we’re replacing all of our polyethylene shipping bags with those made from PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled). PCR bags are usually made from items that people have previously recycled such as plastic bottles, aluminum cans, cardboard boxes and paper. These items are then processed and turned into packaging. You’ll know that you’ve received one of our new PCR shipping bags if you see a globe along with the recycling symbol imprint on it.

RECYCLED VEST

With over 50 years of expertise in high-visibility workwear and the broadest product offering in the industry, Kishigo takes our leadership role seriously. We plan to continue this dedication to setting the standard with the introduction of our first safety vest made from recycled materials. The 1828 recycled vest is crafted  to our same exacting, high-quality standards, but uses only post-consumer recycled materials including the fabric, reflective tape, thread, zipper, care label and hangtag. The 1828 vest launches in April 2024.

RECYCLED HANGTAGS

Hangtags are traditionally attached to every garment and despite their small size, the number adds up. So rather than using new material, we’re switching to hangtags made from recycled paper. Kishigo high-visibility workwear produced in 2024 will include our new recycled hangtags.

ELIMINATING HANGTAGS

To take it a step further, we explored removing hangtags completely and found that it was possible for select products. In doing so, we’re saving over 371,500 hangtags and their accompanying plastic or string attachments. That’s nearly 750,000 pieces—or 1800lbs, the weight of  seven full-size refrigerators— we’re saving from landfills.

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING

Becoming a more sustainable company is an ever-evolving goal. New strides are being made every day in materials, manufacturing processes, and so much more. Kishigo is ready to rise to the challenge and achieve our goal of making the world a safer place every day.  Follow us as our sustainability journey continues.

Kishigo's Day at the Beach:

In honor of Earth Day, our team at Kishigo spent the morning at Huntington Beach, CA, wearing our new eco-friendly recycled vests, and participating in a beach cleanup initiative. This is just one of the many outreach projects our team supports to contribute to a cleaner planet. Together, we can make a difference.
